Who is teaching your child?
I have a background in the business world where I worked for 12 years before entering education. I take the values of hard work, perserverance, and personal accountability to heart. I also strive to foster those qualities in my students. I do not abide academic dishonesty. I have vivid memories of my own childhood where my passion for Social Studies was developed (seriously, thanks Mom!). I hope to deliver the same sense of wonder and excitement that I have for the subject to my students. I am also a parent and I constantly reflect on the type of education that I want for my own child and endevor to make that a reality for yours.
I am honest and open but blunt. I do not pull punches, and will tell students quite unequivocally when they are making bad decisions. I hold them to a high standard that mirrors what will be expected of them in a college setting. I firmly believe this is just as much a part of college preparation as the reading, writing, and arithmetic. I care a great deal for every student and want them to succeed, but they must also remember their roles and obligations in this partnership.
I am also a jokster and enjoy laughing and joking with the students as well. If you can't laugh what's the point of living, right? With this being said, I also try to model that there is a time for work and a time for play and we need to respect both.
You can follow me on my twitter account (@mrwoolseyglobal) for updates about assignments, tests, due dates, and other important class info.
I am here to serve both parents and students. Please do not wait until the last minute to ask for help. I will do everything in my power to help. NEVER EVER hesitate to contact me with a question or a concern (I also accept compliments as well).
I know technology can sometimes be frustrating or confusing. If you ever have any questions or concerns about using any of the components of the website please do not hesitate to let me know

Special Education Accomodations
Accomodations for all special education students are governed by their Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Implementation of specific accomodations are managed through close collaboration between myself, the special educator, the student and parents/guardians. If you have any questions about your own child's IEP accomodations, and how they apply to this class, please do not hestitate to email the special education teacher or myself.
What are the class rules?
I have attached some files below that outline my policies. You also get these in hard copy at the beginning of the school year and are asked to sign them. I put them here as reminders and reference:

DOE/QHST Rules And Policies
Chancellor's Regulations:
All parents, students and staff are expected to read and have an understanding of all sections of the Chancellor's Regulations. The link is provided below. The Regulations listed on this web site are the only NYC DOE Chancellor's Regulations currently in effect.
http://schools.nyc.gov/RulesPolicies/ChancellorsRegulations/default.htm
QHST Dress Code: Clothing and accessories should NOT be worn that:
1. fail to sufficiently conceal parts of the body or articles of clothing (e.g. visible underwear, skirts worn more than 3 inches above the knee) that are normally covered in a school or work environment.
2. Is dangerous to the wearer or others.
3. Has offensive logos, words, or images.
4. Demonstrates gang affiliation (this extends to hair styles, jewelry, beads, bandanas).
5. Headwear is permissible (except hoods).
* If a student arrives at school without proper attire, the school will provide QHST sweats or a shirt for the student to wear during the school day.
QHST Cell Phone Policy:
In line with the Chancellor's Policy, cell phones and similar electronic devices may not be brought to school. If heard or seen, these items will be confiscated and returned to a parent/guardian only on the 1st of the month. If for some reason a parent/guardian cannot make it on the 1st of the month, we will return phones from 6-630 pm prior to scheduled PTA meetings (TBD).
QHST Lunchroom Policy:
Doors to the lunchroom will close 5 minutes after the lunch period begins. AFter the doors are closed, students will be escorted to the auditorium and will serve lunch detention. Bagged lunch will be provided. Students who are consistently late to lunch will receive after school detention and/or will be required to serve detention on Saturday.
Students will be expected to be quiet during announcements and follow procedures for standing in the lunch line. Only students in sections that are called by the lunchroom supervisor should stand in line. Any student who does not follow lunchroom protocols and procedures will face disciplinary action.
QHST Random Scanning Policy:
The NYPD conducts random scanning without prior announcement in order to deter prohibited and dangerous items from being brought into public schools. We have had random scanning at QHST in the past. During random scanning, all students and visitors entering QHST may be required to pass through scanning devices similar to those used to screen airline passengers. Bags and parcels may also be searched by means of scanners, by hand, or otherwise. Any prohibited cell phones and other electronics confiscated during scanning will be held by school administration. The principal will determine when these items will be returned. Students found with prohibited items will be subject to disciplinary and/or police action.
