How will I be graded?
Writing is a major component of this class. I firmly believe that writing allows you to display your mastery of a topic far better than on an exam. In addition, as potentially college bound students it is essential to fine-tune your writing skills now. Essays are your friends.
1. Homework: Completing homework assignments is crucial to your success in this class. The assignments serve to prepare you to participate in a project based learning environment. Please do not panic. Your weekly homework assignments will only require an investment of a few minutes each week to keep you prepared for class work. I promise you will not be overloaded with homework. Any assignment that is handed in late will receive a full grade deduction for each day it is late.
2. Projects: Each unit will have a culminating project that will allow you to show me what you know. Before we begin any project, you will be given a complete description of the requirements and a rubric for grading. Any project that is handed in late will recieve a full grade deduction for each day it is late.
3. Tests/Quizzes: There will be a midterm and final exam during each semester. The dates of each of these exams will be announced well in advance. All exams are cumulative and can contain any material covered in 9th and 10th grade. All exams will also be in Regent's exam format. Quizzes will always be unannounced and can also be cumulative. Quizzes will not always be in Regent's exam format.
4. Class participation and Attendance: What can I say about this? If you are not here, do not complete homework assignments, or just don’t care, you will not be able to keep up. Frankly, you will be missing out on a whole lot of fun also. Classwork will be collected from time to time and given a grade
All assignments are given a point value, which are added up and averaged to determine final grades.

How can you check your grades?
I use Teacherease.com which is an web based online grading book. There have been many requests for grades to be based on this site so that everything is all in one spot. For reasons of security and confidentiality I cannot incorporate grades on this site. Parents and students can check progress on Teacherease any time they wish. You will need to sign up for a free account and you will be issued a login and password. There is a link for teacherease directions posted on the Parent's Nook page.

Grading Policy
Homework: 25%
Projects: 25%
Classwork (including participation): 25%
Tests/Quizzes: 25%
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are given an assignment as a result of a detention or suspension the grading of that assignment overrides the grading policy outlined above. Furthermore, if you are suspended you are still responsible for completing ANY work given. The suspension assignment cannot help your grade but can hurt it. For example: Suppose, Johnny Smith is suspended for 5 days. Johnny is given a suspension assignment worth 40% of his marking period grade. If Johnny does not complete that assignment he will fail the marking period regardless of his grades in the other categories. The bottom line is stay out of trouble and do the right thing, OR suffer the consequences!!
